a whistled musical play

 

 

Scene 1

 

Milena walks into a the set. She is with Leone that sits in his stroller. In the set there is a man he is selling socks that hang from a wire they are single socks with no pair.

 

 

Man: Madame this is a collection of lost socks. I have found them all in the richest neighborhood of Palermo. I assure you they are of the best quality. I have silk, chasmere, and cotton.

 

Milena: I can not believe you! My baby loves socks. How much would five of them cost?

 

Man: Not much.  Since they are for the baby I will just give them to you. 

 

 

Milena: Never!

 

I have some money and would like to help your business.

 

 

Milena goes to her purse. Leone begins to move around in his stroller and falls to the ground (you can hear the sounds of a baby crying but then you hear two).

 

Man: The baby has fallen!!!

 

Milena goes to grab both babies and consoles them.

 

Milena: Why do I have two of them?

 

Man: That happens to all the babies when they fall, you just have to throw the copy into the trash.

 

Milena: No one has ever said anything like that to me

 

A man dressed in a security guard uniform appears. He works for the cities office of environmental contamination. He is holding a sculpture of a womans arm (paper mache)  that he throws to the floor to create the feeling of order.

 

Sercurity guard: What is your name?

 

Milena: Milena Muzquiz

 

Security guard: What is the babies name?

 

Milena : Leone Beninati Muzquiz

 

The security guard writes it out in a book.

 

Security guard: What is your identification number

 

Milena : A33H954

 

Security guard : Ok you just have to throw the copy away and I will go back to the office to register the incident.

 

Milena: Ok I will do that when I get home.

 

 

Milena begins to walk away with the babies and the security guard blows his whistle

 

Security: Madame please you know the rules,  you have to throw the copy into the trash in front of me .

 

Milena: I do not know which one is the original Leone

 

Security: That’s impossible. 

 

Milena: Why don’t I call his father he will be able to see which one is Leone, he is much more precise with these things.

 

Milena calls Manfredi on her cell phone. He arrives with his mother Carla

 

Milena: I was just about to buy some socks and Leone fell out of the stroller.

 

Manfredi: Why do you have two Leone’s?

 

Milena: If they fall they multiply.  I did not know about it and I do not know which one is the real Leone. You guys look at them and tell the officer.

 

 

Carla points to one of them

 

Carla: This ones eyes are darker than Leones’

 

Manfredi points to the other one

 

Manfredi: This one seems more stupid then Leone

 

Scene 2

 

The set is built of three different screens (in Italian they are separe or paravento but they are Japanese by origin) One of the wooden panels has a painted woman on it she has one eye much larger than the other, the other one attached to this one has Styrofoam rocks on it …it looks like a grotto, the next screen is of a window the size of a door with no glass it could also be a frame the size of a door.  it has fabric filled with cotton on the edge. The one next to this has two shelves that have sculptures of light on them. The next screen is broken and is on the floor . They zig zag around each other.   Milena enters the scene with a young girl her name is Sarah, she is 13 years old.

 

Milena: I really want to see this new shopping mall that was built in 1972, I was here once before but did not get a chance to really look at it. Are you Manfredi’s cousin Sarah?

 

Sarah: Yes, I wrote you an e-mail yesterday but the “n” and the “b” in my computer do not work, people never understand what I write.

 

Milena: You look so much like this girl Sarah I know that lives in Rome. Your eyes are the same. 

 

Sarah and Milena walk behind one of the screens and Milena walks out with Sarah which is now 25.

 

Milena: There is another level that has a beauty salon, the only hair style they do is the feathered hair from the 80’s.

 

Sarah: I think that part is only for men

 

Milena: you are so beautiful, Your face is very thin and your eyes are so much bigger. You look like a cartoon

 

Sarah: look! They have these bathing suits for babies, it is almost summer, why don’t you get one for Leone. 

 

Milena looks at a bathing suit which has the babies naked body painted on it

 

Milena : I like this one but it is so expensive.

 

Sarah: how much?

 

Milena: 300.00 euros

 

Sarah: I think it is one of those designer things

 

Milena: Maybe I can frame it after the summer and hang it in the living room.

 

Milena buys the bathing suit. and continues to walk with Sarah which is now 40 years old

 

Sarah: I was looking into the sky at night as usual it was full of stars they started falling on top of me but they were held by strings, once they arrived close to my face they turned into spiders. Bright spiders . If you want to leave you have to take the blue line and get off on the blue cross stop. You can see it from this window.

 

Milena: You are not coming with me?

 

Sarah: No I can’t I like it here.

 

Sarah walks off stage 

 

 

The paraventos are put on the floor there is a table with Carla, Manfredi and two Leone’s. there are rocks on the floor and a sign that says blue cross bar

 

Carla (speaking to Manfredi): Do you mind getting us a bottle of wine, any white wine is fine

 

Manfredi leaves the table

 

Carla: So when do you leave to Mexico?

 

Milena: Soon

 

Carla: Did you forget about my birthday?

 

Milena: When is it?

 

Carla : On April 24th

 

Milena: Oh I am here for that

 

Carla: I don’t want to ask Manfredi myself but could you convince him to take me to the pico di gallo restaurant. He will never think of it on his own.

 

Milena : Sure

 

Manfredi returns with the wine and sits

 

Milena: Do you think we can go to the pico d gallo restaurant on the 24th of April

 

Manfredi: Sure, but I hate that place

 

Milena: Ok then sounds great.  I have to take that flight to Mexico.  Make sure to watch 2×1 Leone all the time he is starting to open doors and it is very dangerous. 

 

Manfredi:(annoyed) fine fine ,

 

Scene 3

 

There is nothing in the set. A man is covered in blankets and sleeps on the floor his name is Mauricio

 

Mauricio: I have not seen you in such a long time

 

Milena : I was in Palermo for the past year but have not done any work, I am with Leone all the time.  I only made this video , do you want to see it ?

 

Mauricio: of course, I am sick and may die soon.

 

Milena : don’t be ridiculous

 

The set turns black and a video is projected

 

They both sit and look at the video of a coyote that is lost in Milena’s garden in Los Angeles there is a voice over of Milena speaking to the coyote who is also Milena speaking back to herself with a distorted voice. 

 

Milena: Hello what are you doing?

 

Coyote: Nothing I think it is lost here .mmmuhh nuooooguu

 

Milena: Are you hungry, I have some potatoes here in the house.

 

Coyote: That disgusting , I eat mice and birds all the time and only , mmmm I think I lost me.uhggyh

 

Milena : What are you looking for?

 

Coyote: Nothing brother was there next to this side of it and he is not then my honey so many of them I don’t see but I was there just one minute of them mmmmuhhu

 

Milena: wait here.

 

Coyote : No, I do not interest in this.
